Summer School "LLUIS SANTALO 2005"

INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY MENENDEZ PELAYO

"Recent Trends in Cryptography"

               Spanish

Dates: July 11 to July 15, 2005
Place: International University Menéndez Pelayo (U.I.M.P.),
Palacio de la Magdalena, Santander, Cantabria (Spain).
Coordinator: Ignacio Luengo, Universidad Complutense de Madrid
U.C.M.
Secretary: Amparo Fúster, Institute of Applied Physics
C.S.I.C. (Madrid)
Aim and scope of the course:

Nowadays, human activities are more and more dependent upon information technologies so that the concept of security plays an important role in our society. Items as common as smart cards, cellular phones, internet purchases, pay per-view TV ... are only partial features of this technological society in which we are all immersed. But behind each one of these examples, there are different security requirements that only can be accomplished by means of cryptographic solutions. Nevertheless, cryptographic applications have to face great mathematical difficulties as far as design and implementation are concerned. The aim of this course is to present an overview of the mathematical aspects of cryptography, ranging from symmetric key cryptography (stream ciphers) up to public key cryptography.
Main courses will be delivered by well known specialists from the international cryptographic community. Other conferences and round tables complete the programme.
The course is addressed to undergraduate or graduate students in computer science, mathematics or engineering as well as to anybody interested in this fascinating field called cryptography.
